Barrie's wife in Finding Neverland (with Johnny Depp, Kate Winslet and Dustin Hoffman). Woody Allen gave her the title role in Melinda and Melinda, but she still says her career isn't where she wants it to be.

"There's more I want to do. I want to be more involved in the content, and I want to make stories...that I would personally want to experience. I guess I just want the whole thing to feel a bit more personal."

Based in LA, Mitchell calls her daily life "quite boring at the moment".

"I go to yoga and...I live near the beach, so I ride my bike around. I draw pictures and I write in my journal." Her reticence inhibits further questions.

Mitchell famously told a journalist that she'd rather disclose her bank balance than reveal whether she had a boyfriend.

Activists say NJ report shows need for homosexual 'marriage'

Once you start going down this road of the government getting behind homosexual unions, you create incentives for further pro-gay policies," he warns. New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine has promised to sign a same-sex marriage bill into law, but not until after the 2008 elections. Political analysts from both parties say Corzine fears a backlash of conservative voter turnout that could cost Democrats control of Congress if another "gay marriage" law went into effect before November.

Plympton man survives explosion

Residents in Plympton thought they heard a plane crash, or a tree falling, or some kind of explosion on Thursday night, said Fire Chief David Rich.

They were right about that third part.

A mobile home trailer exploded in the driveway of a home on Mayflower Road, sending its occupant flying out through the front door and into the nearby woods. The lucky man was not seriously injured.

"His eyebrows were gone and his hair was singed, but he was OK," Rich said. The occupant, whom Rich did not identify, refused medical treatment.

The exploded trailer was not discovered until a neighbor saw the wreckage the next morning and called 911.

"Apparently [the victim] was fixing the heating system in the trailer and gas began to leak," Rich said," but victim has no sense of smell from a previous injury so he didn't realize it."

The trailer was parked next to the detached garage at Paul Harper's house.

The e-mails belie Bush administration claims that environmental risks were adequately considered prior to offering tracts in the Chukchi, Beaufort and Bering Seas for drilling.

During the past three weeks, PEER has released a series of internal e-mails from current and former Interior scientists raising troubling questions about how badly environmental assessments of Arctic offshore oil development were skewed. These e-mails have fueled two new lawsuits in the past week that threaten to stymie new lease sales and lend further support to ongoing litigation against earlier lease sales.

Reflecting mounting concern about the legal consequences of this growing stream of internal e-mails that contradict official pronouncements, Jeffery Loman, the Deputy Regional Director for Interiors Minerals Management Service, in a January 31, 2008 e-mail to all employees sought to limit further damage:

we have been directed to refrain from discussing the PEER press releases and the e-mail messages with anyone outside our organization including any representative with the media.

Stagflation and the Fed

Jobs are one of the last things to fall in a recession, as employers are reluctant to cut back but then begin to do so more rapidly as it becomes clear we are in a recession and not just a temporary slowdown.

The index of Leading Economic Indicators continues to plunge, and is not far away from levels last seen in 2001. Such a drop by the LEI has always been accompanied by a recession.

And finally, let's read a quick note from über-bull and friend Louis Navellier that just hit my inbox: "At the beginning of the week we hoped the market would stage a fundamentally-led, broad-based rally after the monoline insurance companies, namely Ambac and MBIA, were able to keep their triple-A ratings. Unfortunately, a healthy rally did not unfold. Instead, the markets rallied briefly, but with junk leading the way.

Haley Ham Needs Your Help: Antifreeze Bill In TN Legislature

Haley Ham from Sevierville, Tennessee needs your help. Last year Haley's dog, Sam, was poisoned intentionally by someone who used antifreeze. Haley, who is 11 years old, was devastated and has worked very hard to keep others from suffering Sam's fate. Haley collected 1,100 signatures to petition the Tennessee Legislature to pass a law requiring the antifreeze companies to add a bittering agent. Haley was on the hill in Nashville Tuesday to tell lawmakers her and Sam's story. The bill, HB2008, is being sponsored by Janis Sontany of Nashville. The bill has already been passed by the full Senate ( SB2399), which was sponsored by Raymond Finney of Maryville. Unfortunately, it was delayed in the House for 2 weeks. The reason for the delay sights that further studies need to be done on environmental impact.
