| Brian McNamee's opening statement
I am not proud of what I have done, and I am not proud to testify against a man I once admired. To those who have suggested that I take some personal satisfaction in bringing down Roger Clemens, let me assure you that nothing could be further from the truth. I take responsibility for my actions in the hopes that others may learn from my mistakes. My father, who served for over 24 years with the New York City police department, instilled in me that people are human and make mistakes, and that I should always step up and acknowledge my mistakes despite the consequences. And so here we are. Providing information to federal investigators has been very painful for me. I did not seek out federal investigators; they sought me out. I did not want to cooperate because I knew that if I told the truth, I would be providing damaging information against people who I worked for.

Mom to Sue School District Claiming Son Was Bullied to Death
A few days before Brandon's death, the two friends argued over a girl. They quickly patched up the dispute, but guilt from that encounter and its proximity to Brandon's suicide hangs over Trystyn, his mother said. "He said he wanted to be next to Brandon," said Amy Wagner, who has since moved Trystyn and his younger sister to a private school as a result of what she says was bullying toward her son. "It's just been a nightmare," she said. During a Lee's Summit police investigation of Brandon's death, Trystyn told officers that Brandon drew a picture of himself hanging from a rope. The drawing was found by another student and turned in to a teacher, according to a police report. Another classmate later shared a note from Brandon that further hinted at his risks of suicide.
Church failed to adapt in new era
The immigrant church should have segued to a post-immigrant era with some ease. It did not. On the contrary, it imploded, collapsed from the inside. Conservative Catholics blame the Vatican Council and would like to repeal it, as would many of the curial cardinals who are more or less running the church. But you cannot repeal a council because fighting the Holy Spirit is even more difficult than fighting City Hall. The Vatican Council changed the church. We had been taught that the church could not change, should not change and would not change. Then, it did change. Everything was now under question. Many of the structures of 19th century Catholicism collapsed, most notably the central role of hellfire and mortal sin to keep people in line. Many of the church's leaders thought the only way to end the chaos was to restore the old rules.
Univision Battle With Televisa Places Programs in Jeopardy
A long-running feud between Univision Communications and the Mexican broadcaster that provides most of its programming is headed for a showdown in a federal court in Los Angeles. If Univision loses, it could see many of its prime-time shows yanked. While a dispute over royalty payments is the source of the current dispute, tensions between the two companies date back to bad blood between Univisions former chief, A. Jerrold Perenchio, and the late Emilio Azcarraga Milmo, who felt he got a bad deal in 1992 when the two men negotiated the original contract. If the Mexican company, Grupo Televisa, wins and pulls its programming, Univisions enterprise value could be chopped by more than $1 billion. The lawsuit centers on a program license agreement, or PLA, between Televisa, the dominant broadcaster in Mexico, and L.A.s Univision, the dominant Spanish-language TV network in the U.S.
