Absolutely, incredibly, utterly wrong!
Its not everyday that the government sponsors a premier league football club -I wonder how long Northern Rock will continue to sponsor Newcastle Utd FC. If so how could the govt square subsidising premiership footballers exorbitent wages whilst pensionners are having to choose between food or heat and sell their homes to afford care despite having paid tax and NI all their working lives. Perhaps Gordon Brown will now be able to put some meat behind his proclamation of 'British jobs for British workers' and get rid of Newcastles non British players like heâs getting rid of non-doms. .

Inventiveness, hard work, and perseverance have long characterized America's spirit of free enterprise. Charles Goodyear endured years of hardship — even a stint in debtors' prison — trying to find a process that would make rubber more useful for mankind. “The creature," he said, “imagines he is executing some plan of his own, while he is simply an instrument in the hands of his Maker for executing the divine purposes of beneficence to the race." Goodyear's labors finally bore fruit in 1839, when (according to some accounts), after boiling rubber with sulfur, he accidentally dropped some on a hot stove, and vulcanization was born. The process has not changed substantially since Goodyear patented it in 1844; by the time of his death 16 years later, vulcanized rubber had found hundreds of uses.
Citizen scientists track climate change
You'll join thousands of others across the country who are recording the first buds to open, the first leaves to unfurl this spring. Your data will be used by atmospheric and climate scientists, botanists and ecologists who want your help in tracking signs of change. Project Budburst is a national effort designed by scientists who need the data to plan for the effects of climate change on natural ecosystems. It was launched in mid-February. Keeping track of the timing of natural events is a science called phenology. ''Natural events can be anything from when a plant leafs out, blooms or sets fruit to when birds migrate and insects hatch out,'' explained Kay Havens, director of the Institute for Plant Conservation at the Chicago Botanic Garden. Havens is on the committee that designed Project Budburst.
Girardi, Please Don’t Default to the Vets
Joe Girardi has a ton of bullpen options in the Yankee's camp. The Yankees could probably make two bullpens - both better than the Giant's relief corps - from their group. Chad Jennings has an extensive rundown of the Yankee's options here. The Yankees may have a lot of decent options, but they'll need more than a decent bullpen to beat the Red Sox this year. Here is the depth chart that I would draw, assuming that Girardi carries 12 pitchers. The Starters 1. Chien-Ming Wang - Pencil in him for 200-220 innings with an ERA of 3.70. Better yet, use pen. 2. Andy Pettitte - Despite all the health worries, he's missed just 1 start in 3 years, pitching at least 214 innings each time. 3. Mike Mussina - I have a feeling that you'll see a marked improvement from last year, thanks in part to Dave Eiland.
