Its a little after 5:30 p.m. here in Bradenton, and I'm guessing we're going to get kicked out of the press box here any time soon (note to aspiring baseball writers - don't mess with the snowbirds who serve as ushers at these spring training venues. They may look kind and grandfatherly, but they'll mess your world up in a second if you cross them). But before that happens, here's a quick update of what happened today: 1) Shane Victorino hit a triple to right field that he probably could have stretched into an inside-the-park home run if he hadn't been held up at third. The Flyin' Hawaiian looked like he wanted to go home, but a meaningless spring training game is not the place to separate ones shoulder in pursuit of a roundtripper. Vic finished 2-for-3 on the day.
Prison sanctuary for 'traumatised' murder accused
Prison may be a refuge for a south Auckland businessman charged with murdering a teenage tagger, his lawyer said today after the man's second appearance in court. Bruce William Emery, 50, was extremely shocked at the killing and very remorseful, his lawyer Chris Comeskey said outside Manukau District Court after Emery's brief appearance. Emery, a self-employed businessman, wore a white shirt and tie and stood in the dock with his hands clasped in front of him before he was remanded in custody for a fortnight for a psychiatric report. He was charged with murdering Pihema Clifford Cameron, 15, last Saturday after Pihema and others allegedly were about to tag his garage door. He was chased and stabbed in the chest. Outside court today Mr Comeskey said the killing was a tragic outcome and Emery and his family were traumatised.
The Water's Edge: Inferiority complex
The resolution did not mandate any specific action, but it offered official condemnation of the mass killings and deportations of Armenians by the Ottoman Empire during World War I. Support from Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and dozens of co-sponsors suggested that the resolution might make it to the House floor, where it very likely would win passage. On a factual basis, the resolution stood on solid ground. Scholars and experts agree that the Ottoman Turks deported and killed anywhere from a few hundred thousand to several million ethnic Armenians during World War Igenocide may indeed be a fair description. Representative Tom Lantos (D-CA), Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee, noted that, one of the problems we have diplomatically globally is that we have lost our moral authority which we used to have in great abundance.
Product Review: Venzero LINQ
The LINQ is the eighth multimedia player addition to the line up of Venzero, an innovative worldwide provider of mobile consumer electronics and multimedia lifestyle. The company obtained a reputation for its daring features and clever designs, which they have been producing since 2005. Through the years, Venzero has developed know-how and expertise in a broad range of multimedia players. Their first player was a low-budget mp3 player with limited options, while current innovations such as digital television and a WIFI receiver should dumbfound Venzero's competition. Outdoors Report: Prospects appear promising for razor clamming on ...
Conditions should be much improved with better weather when selected ocean beaches open for razor clam digging Friday through Monday. On a three-day dig during the holidays, clam diggers had to contend with swells of 13 to 15 feet and the resulting rowdy surf. Nonetheless, many diggers achieved their 15-clam limits or close. "Those iffy conditions scared off a fair number of folks," said Dan Ayres, state coastal shellfish biologist, "but those who came the first night did pretty well. The north end of Long Beach was good, Twin Harbors was good, Mockrocks was good." You can take that to mean there is no lack of clams on most beaches. With the weekend forecast calling for showers, temperatures in the mid-40s and swells maxing out at 9 feet, digging should be a little easier, too.
Recovery Tough for Mo. City Council
He survived the shooting attack only after throwing chairs at Thornton to fend him off before police arrived. "Connie Karr's death is all of our worst nightmare," Hessel said. "It is something that I live over and over." Besides Karr, killed in the rampage were Officer William Biggs Jr., Officer Tom Ballman, Public Works Director Ken Yost and Councilman Michael H.T. Lynch. Thornton had a long history of fighting with city officials over a litany of code violations, fines and citations. .
